Culture

The county council’s cultural administration, Kultur i Länet, works with culture and adult education matters throughout the county. The cultural administration has four divisions:
The cultural administration is governed by the politically appointed Board of Cultural Affairs. The board annually sets the administration’s objectives, which are to create a cultural environment of high quality with culturally active residents and an attractive living environment.
The county council together with the national government finance regional cultural institutions and consultative services. The county council both finances and is responsible for Musik i Uppland (Music in Uppland) and Upplandsmuséet (the County Museum of Uppland), which are run as foundations with their own board of directors. Kultur i Länet also administers the county council’s support to other organisations active in the county, for example educational associations and youth organisations, as well as to artists and cultural workers in the form of subsidies and grants. Kultur i Länet’s work is regulated by the overall goals and cultural strategies of the county council.
