If you have some form of disability you can get help from the county council.
Technical aids for children
Technical aids for children are free. The county council takes on the entire lending cost of technical aids for children.
Technical aids for adults
Your municipality has financial responsibility for individually tested technical aids for people with physical disabilities over the age of 21. The district occupational therapist at your health centre arranges the provision of technical aids. Equipment is available for:
- Treatment and training
- Getting about
- Transport
- Household
- Personal care

Vision aids are distributed by the county council’s Low Vision Centre
The county council charges a prescription fee for vision aids:
SEK 300 for one aid.
SEK 450 for two aids.
SEK 600 for three or more.
If the purchase price of the equipment is less than SEK 300, then you only pay the actual cost.
Hearing aids are distributed by the county council’s Hearing Centre
The county council charges a prescription fee for hearing aids:
SEK 300 for one aid.
SEK 450 for two aids.
SEK 600 for three or more.
If the purchase price of the equipment is less than SEK 300, then you only pay the actual cost.
Speech aids
The county council charges a prescription fee for speech aids:
SEK 300 for one aid.
SEK 450 for two aids.
SEK 600 for three or more.
If the purchase price of the equipment is less than SEK 300, then you only pay the actual cost.
High-cost protection for technical aids
When you reach the cost ceiling that applies for technical aids, SEK 900, you can receive an exemption card (frikort), which entitles you to free treatment. The exemption card is valid for the time that remains of a twelve-month period, taken from the first appointment during the period.
