Rights
Most healthcare is voluntary. You are responsible for your own health. You are entitled to reject the care and treatment that is offered. If for any reason you wish to change doctors, or discontinue ongoing treatment, you are entitled to do so. You are also entitled to refuse hospital admission. You may leave the hospital when you want to.
As a patient, you are not obliged to participate in the training of medical students, and you should always be asked first. You must also be asked for your consent to be involved in medical research, or the testing of medicines. However, you may not demand a particular sort of treatment if your doctor does not consider it appropriate.
Other regulations apply when the Swedish Communicable Diseases Act is applied, or in the event of a patient being committed to a psychiatric institution. Medical care from a primary care nurse/health visitor is free, as are appointments at baby clinics (BVC).
If you have any questions or opinions on the care and treatment that you have received, you should first talk with the person responsible at the place where you were treated. You can also contact the Office of the Patients’ Advisory Committee and talk to an investigator there. You can access further information by clicking on the link on the left.
