The right to read your medical records
Your medical records contain information on your condition and the treatment you are receiving. In most cases, as a patient you are entitled to read your own records and have the contents explained to you. You may also copy parts of your records.
In some cases, you can also request that certain information be removed from your records. If you wish to have certain information removed, or for your records to be destroyed, you can make your request to the National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen): www.socialstyrelsen.se
Restrictions have been tightened with regard to the person seeking treatment providing evidence of their identity. This means that sometimes we ask for ID. This is to prevent anyone from receiving treatment in your name, which would lead to discrepancies in your medical records.
