Exemption card (frikort)
You always pay for part of the journey yourself, but if you travel a lot you are entitled to an exemption card (frikort). When you have paid SEK 1,200 yourself, you can request an exemption card from the Patient Transport Unit (sjukreseenheten) for patient transport for the remaining twelve-month period. So don’t forget to keep your travel and treatment receipts.
How do you get an exemption card?
When you have paid SEK 1,200 yourself, you send in your travel or taxi receipts, as well as treatment receipts, to the Patient Transport Unit (sjukreseenheten). An exemption card letter with a validity period is then sent to your home address.
Joint exemption card for children under the age of 18
Patient transport for children under the age of 18 in the same family can be counted together, and you can apply for a joint exemption card for them at the Patient Transport Unit.
How does the card function?
If you have an exemption card, it means that you do not pay anything yourself. If you use public transport, you pay and keep the tickets, then send them with your treatment receipt to the Patient Transport Unit. You will then be fully reimbursed.
