Patient travel buses

If you use patient travel buses, you must be able to show an appointment letter when boarding the bus. If you do not have such a letter, you can ask the health centre to provide a signed and stamped patient travel form as evidence of the appointment, or you can show your treatment receipt to the driver on your return journey.

The driver only makes stops at locations that have been booked. If you take a different bus home to the one that was ordered, use the phone at entrance 226 and call the booking centre to inform them of the change.

Useful information
Buses stop and depart from entrance 226 at Uppsala University Hospital. The patient transport buses are available for everyone who has a health or dental appointment. The journey is free.
The patient transport bus is not part of the normal public transport system, but is instead for patients who have appointments. Seats on the bus must therefore be booked in advance. The booking centre gives the driver information on who will be using the bus, what route the passengers require and at which places to stop. Since you can get on or off the bus at ordinary Uppsala public transport bus stops, it helps the driver if you state the name of the bus stop that you see on the bus stop sign.

A relative, who does not need to be an approved assistant, may accompany the patient on the patient transport bus. Seats for assistants should be booked via the booking centre.

For journeys by taxi/special vehicle, you are obliged to agree to travel with other patients, even if this means the waiting/journey time is longer. You are obliged to accept a journey that could take twice as long. If a patient needs to travel alone for medical reasons, this should always be confirmed by a doctor in a letter to the Patient Travel Unit.
