Patient transport

If you incur travel costs when you visit healthcare establishments or dentist surgeries, you may be entitled to reimbursement from Uppsala County Council for some of these costs.

Reimbursements are always calculated based on what the county council deems to be the cheapest mode of transport. You have to cover some of your costs yourself. This varies depending on what mode of transport you use.

Planned patient transport should always be between your registered address and the care institution you are to visit.

Rules for patient transport
The county council provides reimbursement for journeys to care establishments for those of you living in Uppsala county requiring treatment within the county. In some cases, journeys to and from other county councils are also reimbursed.

Reimbursement is offered for the cheapest mode of transport, bearing in mind the patient’s condition. It is the journey between the patient’s home and the care institution that is reimbursed, unless there is an alternative route that is cheaper, for example between the patient’s workplace and the care institution. It is the care provider that determines the mode of transport from the health centre.
